How could something you use every single day be special? Well, what if we told you that water, though often overlooked, is far from ordinary—it’s truly remarkable. From its fundamental role in our daily lives to its extraordinary properties, water deserves our admiration. Here are five reasons why we love water…and you should, too!

1. It’s just super cool

Sure, a cold glass of water is the perfect way to cool down on a hot Texas summer day, but what really sparked our curiosity is the fascinating science behind water. What other substance on earth exists naturally in all three states – solid, liquid and gas? None. It’s also known as the universal solvent, meaning it can dissolve more substances than any other liquid, which helps carry nutrients and minerals vital for living organisms. But what tops our list of cool is the fact that water is essential for life. Every living organism – humans, plants, animals – depends on it. Water literally grows our lives – even more reason to love it!

2. It’s the secret ingredient

Speaking of growing – water is the unsung hero behind all our favorite dishes, and we love shining a spotlight on its crucial role in the growth of our food. Just as we rely on water to survive, crops and livestock depend on it to thrive. Long before food hits grocery store shelves, Texas farmers and ranchers carefully tend to their crops and livestock, making sure they use water wisely along the way. Thanks to their intentional planning and care for the land, they’re able to grow more food with less water – which is good news for all of us.

3. It supports a thriving Texas

A thriving Texas depends on a strong economy firmly built upon successful businesses, many of which rely on… you guessed it, water. Take agriculture for example, an industry where water is absolutely vital. The impact of agricultural products produced by Texas farms and ranches – think food, fuel and so much more – is huge. In fact, the 2024 Feeding the Economy report reveals that Texas food and agricultural-related industries generate an astounding $860 billion in economic activity, supporting more than 4.5 million jobs and $236 billion in wages across the state – and none of it would be possible without water.

4. It helps keep family farms in business

Texas farmer Jim Sugarek put it best when he said, “Whether it comes from the sky above us or the ground below us, we cannot produce food to feed this nation without water.” Farming just isn’t possible without water. Family farms rely on rainfall or irrigation to grow crops each year—it’s their livelihood and what helps them feed their families, and in turn, yours. We love the fact that Texas farmers like Jim are committed to conserving water using innovative practices to not only stay in business but also ensure they can pass their farms on to the next generation.

5. It ties us together

Water is the great connector! Think about it for a moment. Does your dearest family vacation involve water? What about your favorite food? Did you drive to work today? Drink a glass of water? Water is part of everything we do and use – it’s in the meals we eat, the places we visit and the moments we share. Perhaps we don’t think about it enough, but water is the common thread that ties us together. Whether you’re a farmer, a small business owner, teacher, doctor or mom – water is the common bond that connects us beyond daily routines, location and cultures.

A little goes a long way

We could go on about the many reasons we love water, but one thing is clear – water is indeed special. While a little certainly goes a long way – Texas farmers demonstrate that daily by using efficient, effective irrigation and conservation practices – every drop counts, and we all have a role. When we each make one small act of conservation today, we can collectively make a BIG difference tomorrow! So, let’s all do our part to show water the love it deserves.
